Description

As far back as the early 1980s, the Weltkulturen Museum was something of a pioneer in establishing dialogue between contemporary art and ethnological museums through its collection of non-European contemporary art. It shows how artistic involvement with ethnographic artifacts in the museum can look. Objects from the collection interface with recent works by international artists.

The artistic works are complemented by historical facsimiles and unpublished essays by renowned authors such as Richard Sennett and Paul Rabinow, as well as interviews with the participating artists.

Artists:

Alf Bayrle, Helke Bayrle, Thomas Bayrle, Marc Camille Chaimowicz, Sunah Choi,

Antje Majewski, Otobong Nkanga, Simon Popper and the archive of Qumran Verlag (Hans-Jürgen Heinrichs).

Authors:

Lothar Baumgarten, Clémentine Deliss, Mathis Esterhazy, Hubert Fichte, Vanessa von Gliszczynski, Hans-Jürgen Heinrichs, Richard Kuba, Michael Oppitz, Eva Raabe, Paul Rabinow, Issa Samb, Richard Sennett, Mona Suhrbier, Sophia Thubauville.

Edited by Clémentine Deliss.
